JOYNER to Matthew DRAKE, deed of bargain & sale, 37½ acres, 9 Sep 1837 (18 Sep 1837) [margin note] Joyner to Drake This Indenture made on the 9th day of September in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven between Thomas W. Joyner of the County of Southampton & State of Virginia of the one part, and Matthew Drake of the County & State aforesaid of the other part: Witnesseth that the said for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & Sixty eight dollars current money of Virginia in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and sold and by these Presents, do grant, bargain & sell unto the said Matthew Drake and his heirs a certain tract or parcel of Land in the County of Southampton aforesaid being the same Land which the said Thomas W. Joyner purchased of James Blythe and Amy his Wife ( as by their deed of bargain & sale and is of record in the County Court of Southampton containing by estimation Thirty seven and a half acres, be the same more or less and bounded by the lands of Thomas Pret= low, Alfred Ricks, John Drake, Cherry Lowe and Thomas W. Joyner's other land as a reference to the deed from James Blythe and Amy his Wife will more fully explain, to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land unto the said Mat= thew Drake his heirs & assigns forever and the said Thomas W. Joyner, his Executors and Administrators the tract or parcel of Land with all and every its appurtenances unto him the said Matthew Drake his his [sic] heirs & assigns shall & will for= [page break] [p.] 129 ever warrant & defend bythese presents. And the said Thomas W. Joyner for and in consideration of the above named sum in hand paid by the said Matthew Drake doth acknowledge himself fully satisfied and paid, hath granted, bargained and sold aliened and confirmed and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said Matthew Drake his heirs and assigns forever _ one other tract or parcel of land adjoing the above named tract and containing ten and a half acres being the same land purchased by the said Thomas W. Joyner, James Blythe tenant by the courtesy as by reference to the deed now of record in the Clerk's office of Southampton County aforesaid will more fully explain, to have & to hold the said tract or parcel of Land as conveyed by the said James Blythe with all and every of its appurtenances unto him the said Matthew Drake his heirs and assigns forever and the said Thomas W. Joyner his heirs executors and admi= nistrators the said tract or parcel of land will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof the said Thomas W.
