     John BOYKIN & wife Caroline M. to Thomas HERRING [HERRING], 
        deed of bargain & sale, 54 1/3 acres, 25 Feb 1837 (18 Sep 1837)

                 to 
               Herring 

     I John Boykin & Caroline M. my Wife have this day bargained & sold & do 
hereby transfer & convey to Thomas Herring & his heirs for the consideration 
of two hundred dollars to me paid  a tract of Land in the State of Virginia & 
County of Southampton containing by Estimation fifty four & one Third acres be 
the same more or less & bounded by the Lands of Jordan Spivey, John Mercer & 
A. Britt.  To have and to hold the same to the said Thomas Herring his heirs & 
assigns forever.  I do covenant to the said Thomas Herring that I am lawfully 
seized of said land, have a good right to convey it & that the same is 
unencumbered.  I do further covenant & bind myself my heirs & representatives 
to warrant & forever defend the title to the Land Land & every part thereof to 
the said Thomas Herring his heirs & assigns against the lawful claims of all 
persons whatever, this 25. day of February 1837.
