        deed of trust, 360 & 180 acres, 26 Nov 1839 (25 May 1840)

This Indenture made the 26th day of November in the year of our Lord one 
thousand eight hundred and 39  Between William Lawrence of the first part, 
Allen Edwards of the second part and John B. Lawrence on the third part: 
Whereas the said William Lawrence is justly indebted to the said John B. 
Lawrence in the sum of eight hundred and Twelve dollars and forty five cents 
as by bond bearing date the 26th of Nov. 1839  which debt with legal interest 
thereon the said William Lawrence is willing and desirous to secure.  Now this 
Indenture Witnesseth, that for and in Consideration of the premises and also 
for the further Consideration of One dollar to the said William Lawrence in 
hand paid by the said Allen Edwards at and before the ensealing and delivery 
of these presents  the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged  he the said 
William Lawrence hath given granted bargained sold aliened enfeoffed released 
and confirmed, and by these presents doth give grant bargain sell alien 
enfeoff release and Confirm to the said Allen Edwards their heirs and assigns 
two ^P.S.* Certain tracts or parcels of Land lying and being in the County of 
Southampton  one Containing by estimation three hundred and sixty acres be the 
same more or less and Called the Scott land, the other Containing by 
estimation One hundred and eighty acres be the same more or less and in the 
Same County and Called the Crumpler tract which is all the land the said 
William Lawrence owns in Southampton at this time.  To have and to hold the 
said tracts of land unto the said Allen Edwards his heirs and assigns forever 
upon trust:  Nevertheless that the said Allen Edwards shall as soon as he 
conveniently can after the 25th day of December next ensuing and having 
advertised the time and place of sale of the said Land by three several 
advertisments to be posted up at the most public places in the aforesaid 
County, and also by one other advertisment to be posted up at the door of the 
Court house of said County on some one Court day previous to the day of sale 
then proceed to sell the same to the highest bidder for ready money, and out 
of the monies arising from such sale first pay all necessary expences 
attending the sale, and then pay to the said John B. Lawrence the debt 
aforesaid with legal interest thereon, and the balance (if any) he shall pay 
to the said William Lawrence his heirs or assigns on demand.  In Witness 
whereof the parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals 
the day and year first above written.

Southampton County  In the Clerks Office the 25th day of May 1840. 
This deed of Trust between William Lawrence of the first part  Allen Edwards 
of the second part and John B. Lawrence on the third part was acknowledged by 
the said William Lawrence one of the parties thereto.  And having been 
heretofore acknowledged in the Clerks Office on the 16th day of December 1839 
by Allen Edwards and John B. Lawrence the other two parties thereto is 
admitted to Record.
