LAWRENCE & wife Amanda of Sussex Co. and William LAWRENCE of Isle of Wight Co. to William BRITT, deed of bargain & sale, 52 acres, 22 May 1840 (25 May 1840) [margin note] Lawrences to Britt This Indenture made this 22d day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Forty between John B. Lawrence & Amanda his wife & William Lawrence of the first part & County Sussex & Isle of white & state of Virginia & William Britt of the County of Southampton and State. Witness that the said John B. Lawrence and Amanda & William Lawrence for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred and fifty dollars good and Lawful money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said William Britt at & before the ensealing and delivery of these presents doth give grant bargain and sell unto the said William Britt his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of Land Lying and being in the County of Southampton and state of Virginia Containg fifty two acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows on the South by William Lawrence Crumplers place and Thomas Herring and Jordan Spivey on the west by Jordan Spivey on the North by Jordan Spivey & on the East by Arnton Britt & Jordan Spivey, together with all & singular _appurtenances whatsoever to the said _belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders and of every part and parcel thereof. To have and to hold the said land with with the Tenements hereditaments and all and singular other the premises herein before mentioned or intended to be hereby granted bargained & sold and every part and parcel thereof with every of their rights members and appurtenances unto the said William Britt his heirs and assigns forever, and the said John B. Lawrence Amanda Lawrence his wife & William Lawrence for themselves and their heirs the said land with all and singular the premises and appurtenances before mentioned unto the said William Britt his heirs and assigns forever free from the Claim or claims of them the said John B. Lawrence Amanda Lawrence his wife & William Lawrence or either of them or either of their heirs and of all and every person or persons whatsoever shall _will warrant and forever defend by these presents.
