All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Matthew DRAKE to James DRAKE, Deed of Bargain & Sale, 19 Dec 1840 [margin note] Drake to Drake Know all men by these presents that I Matthew Drake of the County of Southampton for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars to me in hand paid by James Drake of the said County the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge do by these presents grant bargain sell and convey unto the said James DRAKE his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of Land situate in the said County and bound by the land of Alfred Ricks Elijah Joyner Nathaniel Crenshaw and others Containing two hundred and thirty eight Acres more or Less together with all the priveleges and appurtenances to the said land or in any wise appertaining and belonging. Drake [sic] 15 Feb.y 1841 To have and to hold the above granted premises to the said James Drake his heirs and assigns forever against the claim of the said Matthew Drake and all and every person or persons claiming through or by him. Microfilm Reel 11 [Matthew, James & Thomas H. were sons of Archibald & Polly (Williams) Drake. Matthew's wife Maria wasn't party to this deed, nor did she relinquish dower.
