   Archibald "Baldy" DRAKE to Thomas DRAKE, 
   deed of bargain & sale, 56½ acres, 20 Sep 1841

This Indenture made and entered into this twentieth day of September 
one thousand eight hundred and forty One
between Baldy Drake of the first part and Thomas Drake of the second part 
both of the County of Southampton and state of Virginia. 
Witnesseth that whereas the said Baldy Drake did for and in Consideration of 
the sum of fifty dollars to him in hand paid by the said Thomas Drake at or 
before the ensealing and

delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged grant 
bargain and sell unto the said Thomas Drake his heirs and assigns forever 
One Certain tract of Land Containing by estimation fifty six and a half Acres 
it being the tract of Land purchased by Baldy Drake of Ridley Drake 
lying and being in the County of Southampton and Nottoway Parish and bounded 
by the Lands of Elijah Joyner Jesse Blythe James Joyner and Joshua Joyner. 
To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land with all its rights 
privileges  only the said Baldy Drake is to have his life right in it and not 
to be interrupted as long as he lives the said Baldy Drake doth warrant and 
defend all other rights except the before named life right unto the said 
Thomas Drake his heirs and assigns free from the Claim or Claims of him the 
said Baldy Drake his heirs and assigns. 
In Testimony whereof the parties have hereunto set there [sic; underlined] 
hands and seals  the day and date above written _

This deed of bargain and sale from Baldy Drake to Thomas Drake was proved by
