GOULD to Robert RAIFORD Deed of Bargain & Sale [margin notes] GOULD To RAIFORD Ex.d This Indenture Made 12.th day of December in the year of our Lord, one Thousand Eight hundred and forty three, between Charles G. GOULD of the first part and Robert RAIFORD of the second part, both of the County of Southampton and State of Virginia: Whereas Johnson RAIFORD on the 12 day of December 1842 in order to secure the payment of a certain sum of Money to William RAIFORD did by indenture of Trust of that date Convey to the said C.G. GOULD his heirs, Executors &c - a certain track or parcel of land bounded as in said deed expressed Cotaining [sic] Forty acres More or less 'upon Trust' for the uses and purposes in the ssaid Indenture Mentioned, and whereas the said debt intended to be secured together with the legal interest thereon accruing Not having been paid off and discharged by the said Johnson RAIFORD his heirs or assigns on or before the 12 day of December 1843 so that default of Payment was Made and the said [page break] [p.] 260 C.G. GOULD having Received Notice to sell the land Conveyed in the said deed of Trust and satisfy the debt the said C.G. GOULD after having advertised the time and place of sale as in said Deed Expressed proceeded on the 12. day of December 1843 and sold the said track or parcel of land so Conveyed to him to the hiest [sic] bidder for ready Money when Robert RAIFORD became the last bidder and purchaser for the sum of 50 dollars upon which after deducting the Necssary expences attending the sale the balance paid to the said William RAIFORD as in said deed required Now This Indenture Witnesseth that for the Consideration aforesaid as well as for the further Consideration of the sum of 50 Dollars in hand paid by the said Robert RAIFORD to the said C.G. GOULD at and before the ensealling and delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said C.G. GOULD hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto the said Robert RAIFORD his heirs and assigns the aforesaid track or parcel of land that is to say all the Estate right title interest Claim and demand both at law and Equity which the said C.G. GOULD has or holds in the said track or parcel of land herein "described". To Have and to hold the said track or parcel of Land to the said Robert RAIFORD his heirs and assigns forever, to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Robert RAIFORD his heirs and assigns forever and the said C.G. GOULD for himself and his heirs, Executors &c the above Mentioned track or parcel of land untothe said Robert RAIFORD his heirs and assigns in as full and ample Manner as was warrant [?- underlined] by the said Johnson RAIFORD by the Deed of Trust herein recited do warrant the same to the said Robert RAIFORD against the claim or Claims of him the said C.G.
