All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records Jesse DREWRY, trustee, to Mariah (JOYNER; widow of Matthew) DRAKE, deed of bargain & sale, 44 acres, 20 Feb 1844 (19 Feb 1845) [margin note] [p.] 348 Joyner to Drake Exam.d This Indenture Made this 20.th day of February one thousand Eight hundred and forty five between Jesse Drewry of the first part and Mariah Drake of of the second part of Southampton County and State of Virginia witnesseth that the said Jesse Drewry, having been appointed by the County Court of Southampton County trustee to carry into effect the provisions of a deed of trust executed by Matthew Drake dec.d to Joseph Pretlow dec.d to secure a debt due James Scott dec.d, which debt Not having been paid the said Jesse Drewry trustee aforesaid did on the [blank] day of [blank] sell to the highest bidder on a credit of twelve Months the tract of land whereon the said Matthew Drake resided containing forty four acres by Estimation with the appurtenances, - thereunto belonging reserving the title to said land untill the purchase Money was paid and the said Mariah Drake became the purchaser: for the sum of Eighty four dollars which sum has been paid by the said Mariah Drake to the administrator of the said James Scott dec.d who has ordered this conveyance to be Made This Indenture therefore witnesseth that the said Jesse Drewry trustee as aforesaid doth grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Mariah Drake all the tract of land and tenements with its appurtenances on which Matthew Drake lived as described in said deed unto the said Mariah Drake her heirs and assigns forever the right and title to said land and appurtenances as conveyed to the said Joseph Pretlow trustee as aforesaid unto the said Mariah Drake and her heirs forever Witness My hand and seal this day and year above written Jesse Drewry trustee ĪsealĪ Southampton County in the Clerk's Office the 19. day of February 1845 This Deed of Bargain and Sale from Jesse Drewry to Mariah Drake was acknowledged by said Drewry and admitted to Record Teste L.R.
