Edwards C.C: Southampton Co., VA, Deed Book 27 (1847-50), p. 246 The Library of Virginia (LVA), Richmond, VA, Southampton Microfilm Reel 12 Additional information: Nancy NEWSOM left will 8 Sep 1844- also witnessed by Jacob BARNES & Jonathan T. GRIFFIN, and proved by their oaths, 15 Feb 1847- naming as her executor James GRIFFIN, and as her legatees her daughters Narcissa R. Vaughan and Artemissa B. GRIFFIN. (Southampton Co. WB13:643-44) While no record of their union has been found in the Southampton Co. records, James GRIFFIN seems to be the wife of Artemissa. They appear together, ages 58 & 35 respectively, in the 1850 Census in St. Luke's Parish, Southampton Co., VA (p. 258a; household/family #284); file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/census/1850/pg0252b.txt It is likely that witness John H. Sandford is identical with the John H. SANDEFORD [SANDIFORD, SANDEFORD] who married Sally BRYANT, daughter of John BRYANT, in 1828. (Southampton Co. M.Reg. 1750-1853, pp. 390, 678) Jonathan T. GRIFFIN was also the security {or witness} for the marriage bond, 4 Oct 1828.
