HARRIS [brackets, line breaks & surname capitalization mine] Southampton Co., VA, Deed Book 27 (1847-1850), pp. 459-60 14 Nov 1849 Baldy MUMFORD [MOUNTFORD, MUNFORD] & wife Mary "Polly" (JOYNER) to Thomas DRAKE Deed of Bargain & Sale This Indenture Made this 14.th day of November in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and forty Nine, between Baldy MUMFORD & Mary his wife of the County of Southampton in the State of Virginia of the one part and Thomas DRAKE of the same County and State aforesaid of the other part: Witnesseth that the said Baldy MUMFORD & Mary his wife for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and Ten dollars good and lawful Money of Virginia to them the said Baldy MUMFORD and Mary his wife in hand paid by the said Thomas DRAKE the Receipt whereof they the said Baldy MUMFORD and Mary his wife doth hereby acknowledge and thereof doth exonerate, acquit and discharge him the said Thomas DRAKE his heirs Executors and administrators the said Baldy MUMFORD and Mary his wife hath granted bargained and sold & aliened enfeoffed and confirmed, and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell alien enfeoff and Confirm, unto the said Thomas DRAKE his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County aforesaid and Containing seventy acres be the same More or less, and bounded of, follows, to wit: Begining at a pine a corner between the said Land Matthew WILLIAMS and the old Chappell land thence, West to a large red Oak a Corner between said Land Matthew WILLIAMS and William JOYNER thence, South a strate line to a Spruce pine between said Land and John PRETLOW thence a line between said Land John PRETLOW east to a red Oak at the Road thence down the Road North to a cedar bush, thence east to a Nother Cedar bush, North to a black Gum fore and aft tree thence to a little post Oak in Sally BEATON line a line North to a large Red Oak thence a line, line of Marked trees West between said Land Matthew WILLIAMS to the first station together with the houses buildings Gardens yards and orchards woods ways Waters Water Courses tenements, hereditaments and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining together with all and singular the reversion and reversions Remainder and Remainders yearly and other Rents issues and profits thereof and of every part and parcel thereof: To have and to hold the said tract or parcel [page break] [p.] 460 of land together with all and singular the hereditaments and appurtenances before Mentioned to and for the only proper use, benefit and behoof of him the said Thomas DRAKE his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Baldy MOUNTFORD and Mary his wife for themselves their heirs Executors and administrators, the said Tract or parcel of Land aforesaid to the said Thomas DRAKE his heirs and assigns will Warrant and forever defend, Clear from and against the lawful right or demand of themselves or their heirs, and from and against the lawful right or claim of all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will Warrant and by these presents forever defend: In Witness Whereof the said Baldy MOUNTFORD and Mary his wife hath hereunto set her [sic] hand and affixed their Seals the day and year first above written Baldy MOUNTFORD *seal* X his Mark Polly MOUNTFORD *seal* + her Mark signed sealed and delivered In presence of James MAGET Southampton County In the Clerks Office the 19.th day of November 1849, This Deed of Bargain and Sale from Baldy MOUNTFORD & wife to Thomas DRAKE was acknowledged by said Baldy MOUNTFORD and admitted to Record Teste L.R.
