URQUHART, deed of bargain & sale, 64 acres, 10 Mar 1853 (16 Jan 1854) State of Virginia, Southampton County This Indenture, made the tenth day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty three, between Goodman Horne of the County of Southampton and the State of Virginia and Martha Ann his wife, parties of the first part and A.B. Urquhart of the same County and State of the second part Witnesseth: That the said parties of the first part viz Goodman Horne & Martha A. Horne for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and two dollars lawful money of the State to him duly paid before the delivery hereof, have bargained and sold and by these presents and by these presents do grant and convey to the said A.B. Urquhart of the [page break] [p.] 454 second part his heirs & assigns forever, all that certain piece or parcel of land lying and being in the county of Southampton & State of Virginia, and which is known and described as follows, To wit: the one fourth part or portion of the Robert Horne tract of land allotted to the parties of the first part in the division of said tract of land between Cherry Horne, Holleman* Horne, Goodman Horne and A.B. Urquhart and bounded on the north and Northwest by Josiah Britt's Land, now A.B. Urquharts, on the west by Silkey Diggs' land, on the South and Southwest by the Carr land now A.B. Urquharts, and on the east by the portion of the said Horne tract of land allotted to A.B. Urquhart, containing Sixty four acres more or less, together with all and Singular the privileges and appurtenances and all the estate title and interest, of the said parties of the first part, therein. And the said parties of the first part do hereby covenant and agree with the said party of the second part that at the time of the delivery hereof the parties of the first part are lawful owners of the premises above granted and seized in fee simple absolute and that they will warrant and defend the above granted premises in the quiet and peaceable possession of the said party of the second part, his heirs, and assigns forever. Summerell and Patrick Doles Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid, do hereby certify that Martha A. Horn the wife of Goodman Horn parties to the abovementioned deed bearing date on the day of March 1853, and hereunto annexed person- ally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and being Examined by us privily and a Part from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her She the said Martha A. Horn acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared that She haid willingly Signed the same and that she wishes not to retract it. Witness our hands and Seals this 10th day of March 1853.
