PRETLOW, deed of bargain & sale, Lot 20, Jerusalem, 6 Jan 1860 John Julius KINDRED & wife Caroline Antoinette (DREWRY) KINDRED to William H. PRETLOW, deed of bargain & sale, Lot 20, Jerusalem, 9 Oct 1860 [p.] 530 This deed made the 6th. day of January one thousand eight hundred and sixty, between John J. Kindred and C. Antoinette, his wife, (grantors) of the one part and William H. Pretlow (grantee) of the other part, Witnesseth; that in consideration of the sum of Seven hundred and fifty dollars in hand paid to them, the receipt whereof is hereby ack =nowledged, the said John J. Kindred and C. Antoinette, his wife, do grant unto the said William H. Pretlow that lot and office owned by them and lately occupied by the said John J. Kindred as a law office and bounded as follows, towit, on the North by the hotel property owned by John Barham, the north side of the Office together with the pailing on the same side on being the dividing line, on the east by the row of pailing which is the dividing line between the said office lot and the property lately owned by F.J. Mahone's estate, on the south by the lot and property lately owned by George Sebrell and on the West by the Main Street leading through Jerusalem And the said Grantors doth warrant generally the property hereby conveyed. Witness the following Signatures and Seals _ Jno.J. Kindred ĪSealĪ ĪSealĪ Southampton County. In the Clerk's Office, January 6th. 1860 This Deed of Bargain and Sale was acknowledged by Jno.J. Kindred, a party thereto and admitted to record. Teste, L.R. Edwards, C.C. ****************************************************************************** This deed made this Ninth day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and Sixty, between John J. Kindred and C. Antoinette, his wife, (grantors) of the one part and William H. Pretlow, (grantee) of the other part, Witnesseth, that for & in consideration of the Sum of Seven hundred and fifty dollars in hand paid to them, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said John J. Kindred and C. Antoinette, his wife, have this day granted, bargained and Sold and by these presents, doth grant, bargain, sell, and convey unto the said W'm.H. Pretlow, that lot and office in the town of Jerusalem owned by them and lately occupied by the said John J. Kindred as a law office, and bounded as follows, towit, on the north by the hotel property owned by John Barham, the northside of the office together with the Pailing on the same Side being the dividing line, on the east by the row of pailing which is the dividing line between the said office lot and the property lately owned by F.J. Mahone's estate, On the South by the lot owned by George Sebrell and on the west by the Main Street leading through Jerusalem, the said property being the same that John J. Kindred conveyed to Wm.H. Pretlow by deed bearing date the 6th. of January 1860, and admitted to record in the Clerk's office of this County. And the said grantors doth warrant generally the property hereby conveyed. Edwards, Clerk of the County Court of the County aforesaid State of Virginia do certify that C. Antoinette Kindred the wife of John J. Kindred whose names are Signed to the above writing bearing date the Ninth day of October 1860, personally appeared before me in my office in the [page break] [p.] 631 County aforesaid, and being examined by me privily and apart from her husband and having the writing fully explained to her, the said C. Antoinette Kindred acknowledged the said writing to be her act and declared that She had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it. Given under my hand this the 9th. day of October 1860. L.R. Edwards, C.C. Southampton County. In the Clerk's office, October 9th. 1860 This deed of Bargain and Sale was acknowledged by John J. Kindred a party thereto and together with the certificate of the privy examina- tion and acknowledgment of C. Antoinette Kindred, his wife, also a party thereto, was admitted to record. Teste, L.R. KINDRED purchased the law office & attached land from George A.W. NEWSOM, 20 Mar 1852 (acknowledged 24 Mar 1852), for $250. NEWSOM also sold his adjoining hotel, to Harrison P. POPE.
