     Commissioner William W. BRIGGS to Samuel KELLO, 
     deed of bargain & sale, Jerusalem, 6 Jan 1862 (7 Jan 1863) 


This deed made this 6th. day of January 1862 between Wm.W. Briggs Commissioner appointed 
by a Decree of the Circuit Court of So'ampton at [blank*] Term 1856 to sell a certain real estate 
in the Town of Jerusalem belonging to the estate of F.J. Mahone decd. of the one part & Samuel Kello 
of the other part,  Witnesseth, that the said W.W. Briggs  Comm'r: as aforesaid for and in consideration 
of fifteen hundred dollars to him paid by said Saml. Kello  doth grant bargain and Sell, unto the 
said Saml. Kello  all that real estate belonging to said F.J. Mahone lying in the town of Jerusalem 
as directed to be sold by said decree, the boundaries of said real estate can be ascertained by reference 
to said decree.   Witness my hand and Seal this day and date above written.

Southampton County  In the Clerk's office the 7th. day of January 1863. 
 This deed of bargain &sale from Wm.W. Briggs Commissioner to Samuel Kello was acknowledged by 
the said Wm.W. Briggs and admitted to record.

Additional information: 

No such 1856 decree found in Southampton Co., VA, Court Minute Book 1855-61. 

There was a decree 20 Aug 1855 in a suit in Chancery Court (Case 1855-017), 
   brought by William W. & Susanna C. (MAHONE) BRIGGS, which lead to the sale 
   of a 16 & 2/3 tract from Commissioner William W. BRIGGS to James HOLT, 
   1 Jan 1861 (pr'd 18 Feb 1861).  (Min.Bk.1855-61:29; DB20:29-30); file at: 
   http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/deeds/30db029.txt 

Commissioner BRIGGS - MAHONE's son-in-law & administrator of his estate - 
   signed an agreement with Samuel KELLO, 15 Dec 1856 (22 Dec 1857), citing 
   the terms of the sale, but no proper deed had been recorded.

Samuel KELLO [III] served three terms as Sheriff of Southampton Co.  He, wife 
   Mary A.R. (DAUGHTREY), & son John G. KELLO sold this property 9 Nov 1869 
   to Josephine F. (DARDEN; Mrs. Henry S.) HOWARD {wid'd 25 Feb 1869}.
