RAIFORD Deed of Homestead [margin note] Ex.d Know All Men by these presents, that I Meritt L. RAIFORD of the County of Southampton and State of Virginia, being a householder and head of a family, do make known and declare this to be my Deed of Homestead, in which I claim under an Act of the General Assembly, prescribing in what manner and in what condition a Householder or head of a family may claim and hold a Homestead and personal property free and exempt from levy, sale or seizure for debt, the following personal property free and exempt from levy sale or seizure, to wit: One Horse valued at $10, One mule valued at ($100) one hundred dollars, One Ox valued at ($20.) twenty dollars, Ten Barrels of Corn valued at ($40.) Forty Dollars, Four hundred pounds of fodder valued at ($6) Six dollars, Three hogs valued at ($16) sixteen dollars, Twenty bushels of peanuts valued at ($25) Twenty five dollars, One Cart and harness valued at ($10) Ten dollars, One plow and harness valued at ($4.) Four dollars, Two beds and furniture, valued at ($25) Twenty five dollars, one half doz: chairs valued at ($5) Five dollars, And all my Kitchen furniture, Consisting of tables, trays, pots, ovens, plates, Cups and saucers, Knives Forks &c: valued at ($7.) seven dollars and one gun valued at $12.00 All of the Above mentioned property claimed as exempt from debt not exceeding in value Two thousand dollars, but valued at the sum of Two Hundred and sixty four dollars, Witness my hand and seal this 11.th day of December 1874.
