HARRIS [brackets, line breaks & surname capitalization mine] Southampton Co., VA, Deed Book 32 (1874-1877), pp. 156-57 12 Oct 1877 Josiah MUNTFORD [MOUNTFORD, MUNFORD] Deed of Homestead [margin note] Ex.d This Deed made this 12.th day of October 1877 by Josiah MUNTFORDa householder and head of a family of the County of Southampton ['and'] State of Virginia, witnesseth: that the said Josiah MUNTFORD doth hereby claim a homestead by virtue of an Act of the Gen'l Assembly of Virginia, approved June 27.th 1870, in and to the following property, [page break] to wit: for the benefit of himself, his wife, Sarah W. MUNTFORD and his children Benjamin Lee, Mary Louisa, Martha Sarah, George Thomas and Missouri MUNTFORD and such other children as may be hereafter in lawfull wedlock be unto him; 5 barrels corn, valued at $12.50 two hogs valued at $20.00 one cart and wheels valued at $12.00 two bushels peanuts at $10.00 household and kitchen furniture valued at $20.00 total value $74.50 All of which said property is claimed as a Homestead Exemption to be exempt from levy, seizure garnishuring or sale, according said of Assembly.
