SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - William and Lydia Wren to Thomas Simmons, 24 Mar 1814 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Southampton County VA Deed Book 14, pgs 365-367 FHLC #34010 Wren & wife to Simmons Examined and delivered to Grantee May 13th 1817 AM This Indenture made this 24th day of March in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen between William Wren and wife Lydia of Sussex County of the one part and Thomas Simmons of Southampton County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Wren and wife for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred dollars to them in hand paid or otherwise secured by the said Simmons the receipt whereof the said Wren and wife do hereby acknowledge they the said Wren &Wife hath granted bargaind and sold aliend enfeoffed and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell alien enfeoff and Confirm unto the said Simmons his heirs and assigns one certain tract or parcel of land Containing by estimation two hundred acres be the same more or less situate lying and being in the County of Southampton's ? bounded as follows viz. begining at a corner pine on Burwell Barrotts line then along his line to a Corner hickory in Ely Cokers line thence along Cokers line nearly next to the head of a branch then down said branch to the old mill swamp + then down the mill swamp to William Briggses corner an ash in the old Indian line then along said Indian line to a persemin tree in Joneses line in the deep branch? then up the ? ?????? of -----??? branch to said Barrotts line and then in along his line to the begining pine or first station and also all trees woods underwoods Commons Common of pastures profits Commodites advantages emaluments and hereditaments whatsoever to this said tract or Parcel of land above mentioned belonging or in any wise appertaining or in ???? the same growing happening or arising and also the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents and Services of the said premises and of every part and parcel thereof and also said Wren &Wife of in and to the said premises and every part thereof To have and to hold all and singular – the said premises above mentioned and any part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances unto the said Thomas Simmons his heirs and assigns forever ----- To Witness whereof the said William Wren &Wife Lydia have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first written ---------- NB We the said Wren & Wife Lydia Wm Wren ----- (Seal) forever warrant and defend the right & Lydia Wren (Seal) title of said tract of land to the said Thomas Simmons his heirs forever Signed Sealed and delivered } In the presence of James Dillard Anthony Evans Thomas Blunt Junr Elijah Wren Virginia Southampton County The Commonwealth of Virginia to Benjn Wyche and Benjamin B Rossen gentlemen Justices of the peace for the County of Sussex greeting: Whereas William Wren and Lydia his wife by this certain Indenture of bargain and sale bearing date 24th day of March 1814 have sold and Conveyed unto Thomas Simmons of the County of Southampton two hundred acres of land with the appurtenances lying and being in the County of Southampton and whereas the said Lydda Cannot Conveniently travel to our County Court of Southampton to make acknowledgment of the said Conveyance – Therefore we do give to you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgement which the said Lydda shall be willing to make before you of the Conveyance aforesaid Contained in the said Indenture which is hereto annexed and we do therefore Command you that you do personally go to the said Lydda and receive her acknowledgment of the same and examine her privately and apart from the said William Wren her husband whether she doth come freely and voluntarily without his persuasion or threats and whether she be willing that the same shall be recorded in our County Court of Southampton aforesaid and when you have received her acknowledgement and examined her on aforesaid that you distinctly and ??????
