Southampton County

At a court held for Southampton the 15th of November 1788:  William Simmons who 
was a petitioner under the same service of Col. Buford having at a former court 
made application to be replaced for the ____ above  on the pension list being 
referred to Doctor Halmer reported that the said W. Simmons is so disabled by a 
wound in his arm as to render him incapable of the proper use of it that he hath 
several other wounds of like ____ that the court  that he ____ so ___  as 
incapable of hard labour (rest unreadable except that he was recommended by the 
Court to be put on the pension list

I do with the advice of Council certify that Wm. Simmons aged about 28 years of 
age, late a serjeant in Col. Buford's Detachment  was disabled in such a manner 
in the service of the United States by a wound in his arm as to entitle him to 
the sum of fifteen pounds yearly, commencing on the first day of January 1786.  
Given under my hand at Richmond, this 13th day of December 1788.
