FRANKLIN, SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA., Feb. 26-[Special.]- Bishop Whittle visited this section this week. Monday night he preached and confirmed in St. Paul's church, Suffolk. Thirteen persons were received into the church by this rite. This congregation has every reason to be encouraged. The Rev. H. L. Derby has been here less than two years, and in that time the numbers of communicants has been doubled. Forty-four persons have been added by confirmation, and the rest by removals into the parish. The St. Paul's people expect to begin to build a new church at an early day. They need a larger building to accomodate the congregations who attend here. To-day Emmanuel Episcopal church, in Franklin, was consecrated by Bishop Whittle, and four persons were confirmed. The Rev. Mr. Derby, the Rev. Mr. Meade and the rector, the Rev. C. E. Woodson, assisted in the services. To-morrow the Bishop visits the church at Courtland. Mr. C. E. Woodson has had sixteen persons added to his church in less than a year. He seems determined to stay in his present field of labor, in spite of the fact that he has been called lately to Ohio, to New York, and to a parish in Virginia.
