The town of Courtland, the county seat of Southampton, was visited by a terrible conflagration Monday night that destroyed a number of buildings in the business portion of town, and also the Atlantic and Danville Railroad depot. The fire started in a barroom, and before it could be checked the loss amounted to $27,000, on which there was an insurance of $9,000.
