(Special telegram to the Dispatch.) PETERSBURG, VA., May 3.- Mr. John J. Bryant, of Southampton county, who was robbed of a horse and buggy on Tuesday night by a Negro supposed to have come from North Carolina, overtook the thief near Hawkinsville, in Sussex county. The negro jumped from the buggy and took to the woods. Mr. Bryant followed, and shot him twice with a shot-gun. Sixteen buck-shot entered the negro's body. He cannot recover.
