A young man named William H. Doyle, a drug clerk here, is in jail on the charge of attempting to pass a forged check for $125 on the Norfolk National Bank bearing the alledged signature of J. D. Pretlow, of Southampton county. Mr. Pretlow was telegraphed to and denied giving such a check. Doyle is thought to be of unsound mind. "The Richmond (VA) Dispatch," Aug. 3, 1892 (No. 12), p. 4, col. 1 The victim is likely identical with Jordan Denson PRETLOW (1832-1905), interred in the PRETLOW family cemetery, "Beechwood" (now "Jerico").
