Mr. James Crocker, of Suffolk, this week dug up a prehistoric relic on the farm of E.J. Gardner, near Courtland, Southampton county. It was the tooth of a shark or some other immense fish which swam over that part of the earth before it was a county. The tooth was dug from a marl bed eighteen or twenty feet below the surface, and is solidly petrified, being impervious to the action of fire. The tooth is triangular in shape and is five inches long, and three inches across the base. Along the edges are many more fine teeth which are very sharp. Mr. Crocker values the find highly.
