EDWARDS NOT GUILTY, COURT JURY FINDS

   COURTLAND - May 16 - (THURSDAY) - AP - A jury in Southampton County 
Circuit Court returned a verdict of not guilty after midnight in the trial 
of Guy Edwards of Portsmouth, being tried for the murder of his great-aunt, 
Mrs. Indiana Lankford.

   The jury returned the verdict at 12:25 after a brief deliberation.  A night 
session had been ordered after Edwards completed his testimony late yesterday.

   On the stand in his own defense, he testified that the woman's death was 
due to the accidental discharge of his gun which he had left leaning against 
the wall.
