Prosecutor Junius W. Pulley said he had been advised by the attorney-general that if a demand for a recount should be made, the election judges should be called to justify the totals on their tally sheets. Mr. Pulley said the janitor, named, Arthur Harrison, "made a careless mistake" in burning the ballots. The prosceutor pointed out that the successful candidates won by two to one margins. H.B. McLemore, clerk of the Southampton Circuit Court, substantiated Mr. Pulley's account of the burned ballots.
