ABBITT DEAD; BURIAL SATURDAY A telephone message reaching Franklin last night advised friends here of the sudden death in Norfolk of John D. Abbitt of that city, in his 57th year, a former resident of this town, president of the Merchants and Farmers Bank here for several years, and one of the best known men in the county. Mr. Abbitt moved to Norfolk about five years ago to become the head of a large banking institution in that city, retiring two years ago on account of ill health. He was a man of attractive personality and numbered a wide circle of friends in the town and county. Mr. Abbitt is survived by his wife, who was Miss Annie B. Pretlow of Franklin, and by four children, Misses Edith and Elizabeth Abbitt, John D. Abbitt, Jr., and William Henry Abbitt. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norfolk. Mr. Abbitt is also survived by three brothers and two sisters; Rev. Chapman Abbitt of Hopkinsville, Ky.; Dr. Jas. B. Abbitt and Mrs. Eleanor Coleman of Norfolk; E.R. Abbitt and Mrs. Butler Pretlow of Appomattox, Va. He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. W.H. Abbitt of Appomattox, Va. The body will be brought to Franklin Saturday morning on the 10:21 Seaboard train and interment will follow immediately at the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, with services at the graveside.
