APPLEWHITE Albert M. Applewhite died Thursday, November 11, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L.M. Vaughan, after long suffering from a stroke of paralysis which he sustained several years ago. He was eighty-two years of age and was fortunate in enjoying good health until about a year before his death when he became almost helpless and remained so until the end. He was the son of Benjamin and Mary Applewhite and was a true and sincere citizen of Southampton county all of his life, serving his country in the very best way he could and at all times. He joined Applewhite's M.E. church early in life and was a consistent member there until in his latter days, he moved his membership to Vincent's Grove Church. He married Laura Saunders in 1870, who preceded him to the grave nine years ago. The deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. L.M. Vaughan, Mrs. C.W. Dickens, Mrs. Luther Whitehead; two sons, B.R. and A.E. Applewhite, and many relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.H. Riddick Saturday afternoon, November 13, at 3 o'clock and interment was made in the family burying ground near Courtland. The pallbearers were; E.L. Marks, H.C. Bryant, Frank Hasty, A.B. Barnes, Lonnie Williford and John Thompson.
