H.A. Culpepper. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery with Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield in charge. Pallbearers were Edward Painter, Adam Miller, James Sellers, Larry Hale, Thomas Riddle and Kenneth Hall. Atkins, 38, died Jan. 4 in a Virginia Beach Hospital after a six months illness. A native of Southampton County, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. David Atkins, Courtland, and the husband of Mrs. Rosa Faison Atkins. A veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of Aragona Baptist Church, he was a salesman for Colonial Chevrolet, Norfolk. Besides his wife and parents surviving are three sons, Mark Anthony Atkins, Chris L. Atkins and Lester E. Atkins; two daughters, Patricia Rose Atkins and Valorie E. Atkins, of the home; five brothers, William A. Atkins, Handsom; James T. Atkins, Hunterdale; John W. Atkins, Black Creek; Edgar A. Atkins and George H. Atkins, Courtland; three sisters, Mrs. Howard Hawkins, Hunterdale; Mrs. L.T. Edwards and Mrs. Kent Turner, Myrtle.
