Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin at 1 p.m. Atkins died Wednesday in a hospital. A native of South Hill, he is survived by his wife, Bess B. Atkins. Other survivors include three daughters, Verna A. Tanner of Raleigh, N.C., Betsy Wegman of Smithfield and Mary Lou Atkins of South Hill; a sister, Ethel Holzback of Richmond; two brothers, Graham Atkins of Franklin and Walter Atkins of Norfolk; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the scholarship fund of the Grand Guardian Council of Virginia International Order of Job’s Daughters in care of Florence Moore, 4465 Bennett Lane, Virginia Beach 23462.
