All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LEOLA BLYTHE ATKINS Leola Blythe Atkins, 93, died Dec. 3, 2000, at her residence at the Village At Woods Edge. Mrs. Atkins was a native of Southampton County, a daughter of the late Robert and Nettie Joyner Blythe and the wife for 68 years of the late William Graham Atkins. Mrs. Atkins was an active member of the Franklin Community in earlier years working with the Altar Guild of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and as a receptionist/telephone operator at the First Raiford Memorial Hospital. She attended St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Courtland in recent years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 128, until a heart attack curtailed many of her outside activities. In the latter years, Mrs. Atkins was a resident of The Village At Woods Edge. She remained active in outlook and activities, taking exercises each morning, working on crafts and completed a computer class prior to her 92nd birthday in order to send and receive e-mails from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren scattered throughout the world. Survivors include two loving daughters, Jean Atkins Beamon and her husband Walter of Virginia Beach, and Barbara Atkins Scott of Charleston, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Candace B. Moore and her husband Jack of Sofia, Bulgaria, W. Tucker Beamon and his wife Donna of Virginia Beach, W. Bradley Beamon and his wife Gail of Atlanta, Ga., Norman Bruce Scott and his wife Cheryl of Dacula, Ga., John McP. Scott of Greenville, S.C., William A. Scott and his wife Helen of John's Island, S.C., Steven A. Scott and his wife Pam of Walhalla, S.C., and Kathryn S. Powell of Columbia, S.C.; and 10 great-grandchildren, Brittany Moore, Elizabeth Moore, Will Beamon, Amanda Beamon, Jason Bittner, Douglas Bittner, Caitlin Scott, Gifford Scott, Sarah Helen Scott, Lorie Stubblefield and Ryland Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Other survivors include her sisters, Kate B. Harrison Saunders, Bernice B. Dunn and her husband Claude, Rebie B. Harrison, Frances B. Clements and her husband Maurice, Marjorie B. Cobb and her husband Herman. She was predeceased by brothers Claude, Bernard, Herman, Percy, Ashby, Harwood and Hugh Blythe. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James W. Browder III officiating. The burial will be at Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Village At Woods Edge and suggests that memorials be made to a favorite charity. Leola (BLYTHE; Mrs. William G.)
