VESUVIA ATKINSON Mrs. Vesuvia Atkinson, 83, one of the old residents of Franklin, died at a Norfolk hospital this morning at 6 o'clock. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Herbert L. Norfleet, of Havana, Cuba, and two grandchildren, Mrs. William Caswell, Jr., of Havana, and Wilson Norfleet, of New York. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 o'clock at the grave in Poplar Spring cemetery, Franklin, by the Rev. George Spooner. ****************************************************************************** AGED FRANKLIN WOMAN PASSES Mrs. Vesuvius [sic; Vesuvia] Atkinson, One Of Franklin's Oldest Citizens, Died Wednesday In Norfolk, - Aged 84. Mrs. Vesuvia Atkinson, long a resident of Franklin and one of Franklin's oldest citizens, died Wednesday morning in a Norfolk hospital in the eighty- fourth year of her age. Funeral took place Thursday morning at 11 o'clock in Poplar Spring cemetery. Mrs. Atkinson was the daughter of the late Harrison D. Moore and Elizabeth Johnson Moore. She was born in this county and moved to Franklin many years ago and always considered Franklin her home, though she spent many of her latter years in Havana with her daughter, Mrs. Herbert L. Norfleet. Mrs. Atkinson was intimately connected with the history of Franklin in its earlier days, and was one of the best known and most beloved women of her generation. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Herbert L. Norfleet, formerly of Franklin and now of Havana, Cuba, and by two grandchildren, Mrs. W.W. Caswell, Jr., of Havana, and Wilson Norfleet, of New York.
