Allen was at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Ben Ivey assisted by the Rev. Ben B. Ussery. Burial was in Beechwood cemetery. The family was at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, Thursday night. In lieu of flowers, donations were made to the cancer research foundation. Pallbearers were Wilson Barnes, H.O. Carlton, J.W. Pope, Jr., Elmo Rock, John N. Britt and Louis Porter. Honorary pallbearers were members of Boykins and Newsoms Masonic Lodges. Allen, 75, died Wednesday afternoon in a Norfolk hospital. A native of North Carolina he was the husband of the late Mrs. Adelaide Simmons Allen and a son of the late John H. and Mrs. Laura Wheeler Allan. He was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church and Newsoms Masonic Lodge. A veteran of World War I, having seen action in both Germany and France, he was a retired carpenter. Surviving are a son, Lloyd S. Allen of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Herbert Allen of Lasker, N.C., Clarence Allen and Magnus Allen of Portsmouth; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Carswell of Morgantown, N.C. and Mrs. Louise Chappell of Suffolk; and three grandchildren.
