BABB, IVOR PHYSICIAN, PASSES Dr. B.F. Babb, 77, retired physician of Ivor, passed away at Lakeview Hospital, Suffolk, Monday night after an illness of one week. He was the son of John and Martha Edwards Babb of Isle of Wight County and at their death came as a boy to Southampton County to make his home with his cousin, Sallie Harris. Dr. Babb graduated in medicine at the University of Maryland in 1892, having received his preliminary education at Westtown School in Pennsylvania, and practiced medicine for 40 years. He was first married to Miss Lula Mae Raiford and to them was born one son, Herbert Babb, who survives. Later he married Miss Bertha White of North Carolina, then a teacher at Corinth. The following children by this marriage survive: Mrs. L.G. Conner of Rich Square, N.C., Mrs. Lewis R. White of Courtland, Mrs. Gordon Smith of Washington, Charlie Babb of Newport News, Frank and Shelton Babb of Ivor; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews, among them Dr. E.M. Babb of Ivor. Soon after coming to Ivor in 1907 to make his home, Dr. Babb joined the Methodist Church and remained one of its most faithful and consistent members. He taught the Men’s Bible Class for many years and then taught the Ladies Bible Class until the Sunday before his passing. He was a strong temperance advocate. Funeral service was conducted at the home Wednesday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. W.G. Bates, assisted by the Rev. Edgar Wood of Petersburg and interment was in Ivor Cemetery. The Methodist Church choir sang "After" and the Rev. and Mrs. P.F. Newton sang, "Lead Kindly Light" at the home. At the grave the choir sang "How Firm a Foundation." Pallbearers were: P.F. Newton of Rich Square, N.C., Dr. E.M. Babb, L.H. Babb, John E. Babb, Ben Babb, Charles Neave, J.C. Bradshaw, Edward Raiford and Wallace White.
