EMERSON MACAULAY BABB IVOR - A funeral service for Dr. Emerson MaCaulay Babb, 85, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, with burial in Ivor Cemetery. Pallbearers were E.V. Stephenson Jr., N.S. Boykins, J. Winston Camp, J.T. Faircloth Jr., Herman W. Wade, A. Meredith Felts, Robert H. Pulley, T. Russell West, Woodroy Moore, Paul Brantley, Jack Lowe. Babb died Saturday in a Richmond hospital following a long illness. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Virginia Smith Babb. He had practiced medicine in Ivor for 44 years. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and interned at Grace and Stuart Circle hospitals in Richmond before returning to Ivor, where he practiced from 1924 to 1968. Babb was a veteran of World War I and II. During the second war, he commanded a hospital train in Europe. After the war, he did postgraduate training in Chicago and New York before resuming his practice. He also was a former staff member of the Louise Obici Memorial Hospital in Suffolk. Following his retirement from active medical practice, he moved to Richmond, where he lived for a number of years. Other survivors include a daughter, Rosalyn B. Cox of Salem; and three sons, Emerson M. Babb of West Lafayette, Ind., Dr. John R. Babb of Beaumont, Texas, and Paul C. Babb of Richmond; a sister, Isle B. Wood of Petersburg; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Ivor Rescue Squad or a favorite charity.
