STANLEY BABB Seldom has any community been so universally grieved as was the Corinth community of this county in the death on January 29 of J. Stanley Babb, the end coming after a severe attack of pneumonia following influenza, when after a week of great suffering he passed away in the presence of his parents, brothers and sisters. He was a young man of thirty years, in the very prime of life, of unexcelled energy and perseverance, respected by everyone as a business man of exceptional ability and a most progressive young farmer. A man of clean habits, pure thoughts and high motives, he endeavored to live his life as a consistent follower of Christ. Following his academic course at Corinth Academy he studied for four years at Westtown School, Westtown, Penn, and returning to the farm he had, by his splendid business ability and foresight, secured an excellent farm upon which he had recently erected a commodious and modern home. He was president of the Ivor Hardware Co., a director of the Merchants and Farmers Bank of Ivor, and as a member of the Democratic Executive Committee of Southampton County took an active interest in its political well-being. He had won a large place in the business life of his section of the county, an influential position in the counsels of his church and will be greatly missed in every activity of his community. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jno. H. Babb, two brothers, L.H. Babb of Ivor and Macauley Babb of the Virginia Medical College, Richmond, and by three sisters, Mrs. H.W. Hines of Boykins, Mrs. G.T. Partridge and Miss Isla Babb of Ivor. An unusually large gathering of friends assembled at his late home on Friday, January 31, to attend his burial. The funeral services were held from the wide veranda of his residence and the choir of Corinth Church sang during the services a number of those hymns which have comforted the bereaved and consoled the sorrowing for ages past. Rev. A.E. Cloud, pastor of the deceased, assisted by Rev. J.W. Reams and Rev. Byron L. Osborne, conducted the services and Prof. C.E. Trueblood, a former principal of Corinth Academy spoke briefly of his appreciation of the life of his friend. The body was laid to rest in the neat little burial plot at his father's home nearby. The active pallbearers were Supt. G.L.H. Johnson, Paul Scarborough, T.P. Raiford, L.D. Pulley, Paul Brantley, Howard W. Babb; honorary, L.H. Brantley, Pettaway Barrett, Mr. Kinsey, Henry Rowe, E.V. Stephenson, Dr. W.E. Snipes, M.D. Boone, H.B. McLemore, Dr. J.S. Gale, Dr. R.L. Raiford, L.T. Saunders, Willie Bryant, H.M. Rawles, T.E. Johnson, Cecil Cloud, Malon Partridge. As a last token of their respect and love for the deceased, The Ivor Hardware Co., The Merchants and Farmers Bank of Ivor, Pettaway Barrett and a host of friends and relatives covered the mound with beautiful flowers. Stanley was a birthright member of the Society of Friends and was a loyal supporter of his home church in his quiet way. His advice was sought on church and school matters and was gladly given and safe to follow. While his death is a great loss to the community, our hearts go out in sympathy for his parents, brothers and sister, whom he loved so much. We are all comforted in the fact however that this life with its joys and sadness is only a preparation for the greater life beyond and that Stanley has been called by his Creator and is waiting to welcome us if we will live as good a life as he.
