Babb NEWSOMS - Mrs. James A. Babb, 70, resident of Chattanooga, Tenn. and formerly of Newsoms, died early Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Vann Hammel, in Chattanooga, after a brief illness. [sic*] She was the widow of James A. Babb and a daughter of James Baker and Mrs. Darthulia Worrell Vick of Southampton County. She was a member of Newsoms Baptist church for many years. Surviving, besides Mrs. Vann Hammel, are three sons, James Garland Babb of Washington, Allison C. Babb of Lawrenceville, and Joseph B. Babb of Suffolk, eight grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Bryant of Boykins, Mrs. Carrie Rice of Richmond and Mrs. Ruth Saunders of Emporia; three brothers, Charlie Vick of Emporia, J. Claude Vick of Washington and Mosley G. Vick of Tucson, Ariz. Funeral services were held today (Monday) at the Holland Funeral Chapel at 3 p.m. by the Rev. George D. Alley, pastor of the Suffolk Christian Church. Burial was in the Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were Currie Lee Vick, James Blythe, Stacey Ansley, Howard Bryant, George Larson, Kelton Warren, Wayne Vick and Joe Blythe.
