All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ GEORGE QUINTON BASS COURTLAND - George Quinton Bass, 56, deputy sheriff and jailor of Southampton County, died Tuesday morning in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mrs. Jennie Laine Bass. His parents were the late Kader R. and Mrs. Candace Perry Bass of Chowan County, N.C. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church. Surviving, besides his widow, are two daughters, Mrs. Huntley B. Friend of Chatham and Mrs. Elizabeth B. Meditz of Courtland; four brothers, W.L. Bass and E.L. Bass of Courtland, K.R. Bass Jr. of Boykins and R.L. Bass of Sedley; and four sisters, Mrs. J.S. Raiford, Mrs. W.L. Bradshaw and Mrs. Thomas L. Perry of Franklin and Mrs. Davis S. Henneman of Providence Forge. The body was taken to W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home, Franklin, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. by his pastor, the Rev. Herman L. Smith. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
