He was ill for three weeks and at first there was hope of recovery but soon he, as well as his loved ones, realized that his disease was fatal and at best his days were few. He spoke of death with the blessed assurance that it was well with his soul. He said a few days before he died, "It is all right, my only regret is that I must leave my children and I hate most of all to leave my dear wife." He was happily married to Miss Georgette White over forty-eight years ago who survives him, besides two daughters; Mrs. J.H. Drake and Mrs. B.A. Porter; three sons, J.F. Bishop, S.S. Bishhop and K.R. Bishop, also sixteen grand-children and four great grand children. He was certainly a faithful and devoted husband and father. In the absence of his pastor the funeral was conducted by his Presiding Elder, Rev. S.J. Brown of Portsmouth. The funeral and interment took place at his late home, a large crowd of friends and loved ones gathering to pay the last tribute of respect. His home was near Handsom and he lived all his life, died and was buried within a few hundred yards of his birth-place. All of his children lived near him and were constantly with him during his illness, and all that love and medical skill could do was done, but God took him. He was for many years a faithful member of Mt. Horeb Methodist Church keeping his church vow, "To attend upon its ordinances and support its institutions." May God's grace comfort the bereaved ones and may heaven be theirs' also.
