Holland & Sons Funeral Chapel, Franklin, by the Rev. R.E. Brittle of the Hunterdale United Church of Christ and the Rev. L.F. Smith of Chesapeake. Burial was in Southampton Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Henry Barnes, George S. Drewry, J. Robert Crumpler, W.S. Johnson, Jr., Gilbert Porter, James Byrum, J.M. Way and Clifton Daughtrey. Best, 38, of South Quay, Nansemond County, died Thursday in Southampton Memorial Hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident New Year's Day on U.S. 258 between Windsor and Franklin. Best, a logging contractor, was driving alone when his car struck the rear of a truck, said Dr. Henry W. Gardner Jr., Franklin medical examiner. Best suffered internal injuries which were not believed to be serious at first. An autopsy was conducted to determine the cause of death. A native of Bolton, N.C., he was the husband of Mrs. Nancy Crutchlow Best and a son of Zeno and Mrs. Grace Baldwin Best. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Besides his widow and parents, surviving are three daughters, Miss Julia Best, Miss Lorraine Best, and Mrs. Jane Best and a son, Marvin Zeno Best Jr., all of the home; and a sister, Mrs. Miriam Watson of Holland.
