JOHN IRVING BAKER

   CAPRON - Funeral services for John Irving Baker, 77, were held Tuesday in 
Capron cemetery by the Rev. Vann E. Cash.  Masonic rites were accorded at the 
grave.  Echols Funeral Home had charge.

   Baker a retired merchant died Sunday in Greenville Memorial Hospital, 
Emporia.

   A native of Southampton County, he and his brother had owned and operated 
a mercantile store in Capron.

   Survivors include five sisters, Misses Mary Sue Baker, Florence Baker and 
Augusta Baker of Capron, Mrs. Grace Moore of Emporia and Mrs. Eunice Birdsall 
of Afton; and a brother, Roland T. Baker of Capron; and nieces and nephews.
