All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ DAVID RICHARD BUTLER David Richard Butler, Sr., 77, retired merchant and former justice of the peace, died at his home in Franklin on Wednesday morning, March 5, after an illness of a few weeks. Mr. Butler was a native of Isle of Wight County and had resided in Holland for some time before moving to Franklin about 35 years ago. He was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church and of Franklin Lodge No. 51, Knight of Pythias. The deceased was the husband of the late Mrs. Cora Duck Butler, and the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David L. Butler of Isle of Wight County. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Cora Lee Francis; three sons, R. Tim Butler of Statesville, James Kemper Butler of Farmville, and David Richard Butler, Jr., of Franklin; six half-brothers, Harry and Flippo Butler of Portsmouth, Paul, Herman and Jason Butler, all of Carrsville, and Sam Butler of Franklin; and one sister, Mrs. Joe Keen of Holland. Last rites for Mr. Butler were conducted at 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery by Rev. William A. Grissom, pastor of the deceased. The pallbearers were John E. Beale, Roy Edwards, H.M. Lewis, L.B. Norfleet, Richmond H. Peters and Harry Steinhardt.
