Mrs. Butler was born in Southampton County, the daughter of the late William Richard Edwards and Elizabeth Holcombe Edwards. She was retired from the City of Franklin Department of Social Services where she was employed for 19 years. She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church. Mrs. Butler is survived by her husband of 51 years, Samuel O. Butler Jr.; three sisters, Lillian E. Bradshaw and Ira E. Whitley of Franklin and Vera E. Worrell of Ivor; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth E. Beale and four brothers, Joseph E. Edwards, William Jimmy Edwards, Lionel L. Edwards and Robert L. Edwards. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in High Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Edward Johnson. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence. Memorial gifts may be made to High Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 218, Franklin VA 23851. Wright Funeral Home is in charge.
