Sherman Butler, 63, died Thursday in a Norfolk hospital. He was the husband of Mrs. Roberta Copeland Butler and a son of Richard A. and Mrs. Mamie Pierce Butler. He was a native of Isle of Wight County and a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church and its Men’s Bible Class, Woodmen of the World, and Carrsville Ruritan Club. Besides his widow, surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William S. Moore of Portsmouth and Mrs. Joel Clinton Bradshaw Jr. of Carrsville; two sons Richard S. Butler of Norfolk and Russell Butler of Huntington, W.Va.; a sister, Mrs. Clyde G. Johnson of Holland; and 11 grandchildren. A funeral service was held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. St. Elmo Nauman of Franklin Congregational Christian Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Irving Jenkins, Charles Edward Carr, ? R. Butler, Jr., Eugene Pierce, Richard Lee Wilkins, J.F. Duke Jr., Dr. C.C.
