A native of Isle of Wight, he was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. He was a farmer. He was the son of Mrs. Erma Horne Bowden and the late John Rufus Bowden and the husband Mrs. May Lewis Bowden. Besides his widow and mother, surviving are a son, Byron Clayton Bowden Jr., and a grandson Glenn Bowden of Richmond; two brothers, Herman W. Bowden and John Rufus Bowden Jr. of Zuni; and a sister, Mrs. Emmett B. Barnett of Zuni. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 pm in Purviance Funeral Chapel by Rev. Grove C. Holder. Burial will be at Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. ****************************************************************************** BYRON CLAYTON BOWDEN ZUNI - A funeral service for Byron Clayton Bowden Sr. was conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. Grover C. Holden. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.* Pallbearers were Clyde Cook, Harold West, James M. Burge, Roger Britt, Wallace Brittle, Olin Necesgory, Morrison Butler and J.T. Edwards. Bowden, 86, died in his home Monday afternoon. A native of Isle of Wight County, he was member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. He was a farmer of the Zuni Community, and employed by the Virginia Department of Highways. He was a son of Mrs. Erma Horne Bowden and the late John Rufus Bowden and the late John Rufus Bowden and the husband of Mrs. Mary Lewis Bowden. Besides his widow and mother, surviving are a son, Byron Clayton Bowden Jr. and a grandson Glenn W. Bowden, both of Richmond, two brothers, Herman W. Bowden and John Rufus Bowden Jr. of Zuni; and a sister, Mrs. Emmett B. Barrett of Zuni.
