Mr. Beaton had been suffering for some time with severe heart trouble, having had an attack last week while visiting his daughter, Mrs. E.R. Turnbull of Lawrenceville, but recovered sufficiently to return him by auto last Monday, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Beaton and family. He was able to be up in his home until Tuesday night when he was again taken ill and lived only a few hours. He married Elizabeth F. Thomson, who preceded him to the grave several years ago. Mr. Beaton was the oldest man in Boykins in point of residence. He was the founder of the local Masonic Lodge and a Past Master thereof; was a faithful communicant of the Episcopal Church and was postmaster here for eighteen years. The surviving member of his immediate family are one daughter Mrs. E.R. Turnbull, of Lawrenceville; two sons, C.T. and N.S. Beaton of Boykins; one sister, Mrs. E.H. Grizzard of Boykins and six grandchildren. Burial services were conducted by his Rector, Rev, Winfield Shiers, of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and by the Masonic order. The interment took place in the family burying ground and the beautiful and numerous floral tributes were a token of the love and esteem in which he was held by his loved ones and friends. The active pallbearers were: B.F. Britt, E.R. Bryant, O.W. Gray, Walter H. Britt, W.B. Sykes, J.M. Hill, W.H. Powell, A.S. Francis. Our loss of one so cheerful and hopeful in disposition, earnest and active in all his undertakings is keenly felt by the whole community and we extend to the family our heartfelt sympathy in their great bereavement.
