All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EDWARD HUNTER BEATON Edward Hunter Beaton, 65, well known farmer of Southampton County died Monday night at his home in the Black Creek community after an illness of a few months. He was the son of the late Robert and Lucy Ann Beale Beaton, of this county, and husband of Mrs. Ann Hatfield Beaton. He was a consistant member of Black Creek Baptist Church for many years. Besides his wife he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. R.H. Powell of Anacostia, Mrs. G.H. Raiford of Victoria, Mrs. P.O. Duck, Jr. of Sedley, Mrs. G. Lindsay of Arlington and Miss Wilma Beaton of Arlington; two sons, Robert L. Beaton and Howard H. Beaton of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren and one niece, Mrs. Ryland Gillette of Sedley. Services were conducted at Black Creek Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by the Rev. W. B. Watson, the pastor, assisted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin, Joel Cooke Holland of Murfreesboro sang "Abide with Me" and "Rock of Ages." Burial took place in Poplar Spring Cemetery here, the casket being covered with a pall of Easter Lilies and roses. There were many beautiful floral tributes. Pallbearers were C.B. Owen, V.S. Pittman, C.C. Edwards, F.B. Welch, N.W. Wills, W.H. Jones (Tup), H.B. McLemore, Jr., and Dr. Morgan B. Raiford.
