HERMAN WILSON BOWDEN

   ZUNI - Herman Wilson Bowden, 71, died July 5, in his home.

   Mr. Bowden, a Southampton County native, was the retired co-owner and 
operator of Zuni Gulf and Bowden Brothers Service Station.  He was also 
the owner and operator of Sanford and Son Antique Shop.  He was a member 
of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church and the Zuni Ruritan Club.

   Survivors include his wife, Nellie L. Boyette Bowden; a son, Donald R. 
Bowden of Carrsville; a brother, J.R. Bowden of Zuni; a sister, Mildred B. 
Barrett of Zuni; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

   The funeral was conducted Tuesday in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church by the 
Rev. J. Waverly Horne.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

   Purviance Funeral Home in Wakefield handled the arrangements.
