All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN ALBERT BEATON After several years of failing health John Albert Beaton, 69, a long-time resident of Franklin, died early Friday morning, July 6, in Raiford Memorial Hospital, where he was under treatment for a recurrent heart condition. Well enough the day before to walk about the hospital corridors, he was found died in bed about 4 a.m. Known to his friends as "Crip", he was the son of the late Richard and Georgianna Blythe Beaton of Southampton County. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of its Bruner Bible class. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Brown Beaton of 315 Grove Street; a son John Albert Beaton, Jr. USN, Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother Joe Beaton of Franklin; and three sisters, Mrs. Robert Hasty and Mrs. John Hasty of Portsmouth and Mrs. India Shaw of Newsoms. An elder brother, Livious Lee Beaton of Portsmouth, died last January 16. Funeral services for Mr. Beaton were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery, with Revs. John Worth Long and R.D. Stephenson officiating. The active pallbearers were Graham Atkins, Lewis Gillette, W.B. Hastings, Glenn Lanier, James H. Lee and William M. Peterson.
