He was a native of Southampton County, but had made his home for the past 37 years in Portsmouth, where he was a retired employee of the Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church and White Lily Camp No. 97, Woodmen of the World. The son of the late Richard and Mrs. Georgianna Blythe Beaton, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie Ritter Beaton; one daughter, Mrs. R.W. Jordan of Gloucester Point; three sisters, Mrs. R.W. Hasty and Mrs. Emma Hasty, both of Portsmouth, and Mrs. India Shaw of Newsoms; two brothers, J.A. and J.R. Beaton, both of Franklin; and one grandchild. Funeral services were conducted at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, Portsmouth, at 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon followed by burial in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
