MARY BROWN BEATON Mrs. Mary Brown Beaton, 62, of 315 Grove Street, Franklin, died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Friday night, November 20, after an illness of a few weeks. Mrs. Beaton was a daughter of the late Richard Brown, pioneer Franklin jeweler and watchmaker, and the late Martha Howell Brown. Her husband, John Albert Beaton, Sr., died on July 6, 1951. Educated in the public schools of Franklin, Mrs. Beaton was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of its King's Service class. For several years she owned and operated Mary's Shop, variously located in the old frame Masonic Temple building, the Merchants and Farmers Bank building, and more recently at 105 N. Main Street. Surviving her are a son, John Albert Beaton, Jr. USN, stationed in Italy; and a niece, Mrs. Brownie Johnson Collier, a nephew, H. Shepherd Johnson, and a grand nephew, Joseph Howell Collier, all of Franklin. Funeral services for Mrs. Beaton were held in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church, and Rev. R.D. Stephenson, a former pastor, officiating. Her son John A. Beaton, Jr., was flown from the Mediterranean in time for the funeral. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jack Farmer, Wilfred Gatling, Lewis Gillette, Glenn Lanier, Jimmy Lee, W.N. Rose, Spencer Smith and John Wetzel. [Mary Shepard (BROWN; Mrs. John A.
