MARY BEEDIE LEWIS BOWDEN

   ZUNI - A funeral service for Mary Lewis Bowden, 72, was held Monday at 
3 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Revs. J. Waverly Horne 
and Steven Weed.  Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.*

   Pallbearers were: Harold West, M.M. Holt, Charlie Harris, William Rhodes, 
Jimmy Bryant, Joe Hobbs, Waylon Council, Wallace Brittle, Sydney Brittle and 
Ward Tynes.

   Mrs. Bowden died Saturday in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital.

   A native of Southampton County, he was the widow of Byron C. Bowden Sr.

   She had been a bookkeeper for Bowden Brothers Co. since  1968 and was a 
member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church.

   Survivors include a son, Byron Clayton Bowden Jr. of Richmond; and a 
grandson.

*Her obit & Death Certificate (#82-028222) both give buried in Holly Lawn 
   Cemetery, Suffolk.  It is unclear if both were in error, or if her remains 
   were moved, but she is buried in Tucker Swamp.
